Allyson Adams: Writer, Director, Producer & Actor

Allyson AdamsMs. Adams first heard the phrase “lights, camera, action” when she was 18 months old while doing a commercial for Clairol. Theatre, dance and film have been her calling ever since. What began as an acting career, following in the paths of her two successful acting parents, evolved into a love for storytelling as Adams discovered her talent for writing, producing and directing.

Adams’ artistic journey took her to Santa Cruz, New York and the Southwest before returning to Los Angeles in 1993 where her play “Pink” played to sold-out audiences. The L.A. Weekly wrote, “Besides her rich and raw material, playwright Adams has both wit and profound honesty on her side.”

When her writing and directing efforts for Bara Byrnes one-woman show “A Bittersweet Tale” was made into a documentary, they won the People’s Choice Award at the Malibu Film Festival. Adams’ most recent film “Peace is a Woman’s Job” is based on her one-woman show about Jeannette Rankin that she has been touring since 1998. A passion to present the courageous Rankin’s message of peace has fueled this project. Ms. Adams strongly believes that Jeannette Rankin’s life and story are relevant in today’s world.

Adams who lives in Montana also divides her time teaching young people where she uses theatre as a tool for education and personal growth. See Education for more infomation.

Ms. Adams is on the Montana Committee for the Humanities Speakers Bureau and is an Artist in Residence with the Montana Arts Council. She has been a guest lecturer at USC Film School, UCLA, Northridge University and Moorpark College in California. Ms. Adams traveled to New Zealand twice as a drama teacher to work with Maori youth. In 1997, Adams attended The International Women’s Peace Conference at the United Nations in New York City.

No stranger to Hollywood, Allyson Adams’ parents, Nick Adams and Carol Nugent, were successful actors. Nick Adams played Johnny Yuma in The Rebel and later was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor in Twilight of Honor. Her grandfather, Carl Nugent, worked forty years in show business as a prop man and on such classic movies as Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind. Also, Ms. Adams brother, Jeb Adams, was a teen idol when he starred in the television series Black Sheep Squadron and is now a talented screenwriter and production designer for commercials. Perhaps her own fascinating family history has inspired her to bring to stage and film courageous content and characters.
